NEW STEAMER AWAROA.

THE INITIAL TRIP. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star. , ") DARGAYILLE, Monday. The initial trip of the Northern Union Company's fine steamer Awaroa was very successfully carried out to-day. About 50 representative business men left town by special train this morning by invitation of the Company, and, joining the steamer at Helensville, a start was made at 11.30 a.m. A banquet was held before- the passage across the Heads was made. Subsequent toasts included "The Company,"' proposed by Mr. T. Peacock, and responded to by the Hou. E. Mitchelson: "The Managsment," proposed by Mr. Ranson, and responded to by Mr. James Stewart; "Commercial Interests in Kaipara/ proposed by Mr. H. Campbell, and responded to by Mr. : Bas3ett, the chairman of the Hobson I County Council. The visitors -sroro specially pleased \ -svitli the splendid finish of the newsteamer. The trip rp the river proved ( a surprise to most of those vrho were lon board, the signs of commercial aei tivity being almost in the nature of a ! revelation. The various wharves en- ! route were crowded by local residents, who cheered the Awaroa as she passed. An interesting trip is arranged for tomorrow. It includes a visit to Wairau Falls, and some of the finest kauri for- ! est now being worked in the province.
