Only ten married men relied np to play ia the Rugby football match, Mairied v. Club, which was played in Mr A. M. Barriball's paddock on Thursday last, and the team had to be made up of single men. The teams were' as follows:—Married Men's Team: G. Hone, A. FlaveU, D. Wilson, J. E. Makgill, J. Gribble, H. Wilson, T. Armstrong, Poni, H. O. Mellsop, and A. James (married), aud W. Johnstone, S. Bright. E. Thomson, G. Flavell, aud J. Greenhcad (single). Club Team: C. Hcrrold. V. BariibaU. L. ISarriball, J. Bennett (captain), T. McNamara. Henfling, Hammond, Bright, W. Honey, W. Craig, Hoimes, G. Honey, McGahcy, McNanghton, and W. Smith. The single men had the wind in their favour during the first spell, which ended with the score Of 3 points each, McNamara and Johnstone each scor-' ing for their sides. Iv the second half the Benedicts, with the wind behind thorn, ran up another' 11 points to their opponents' 3, thus winning by 14 points to 6. A let urn match will most likely be played on the 13th inst.
The bachelor's ball, given in the Public Hall on Thursday night, was, in spite of a close w.et. night, a great success. The ball was givon to the single ladies in rptnrn for their leap year ball held on July 2Sth.
The pupils of Prof. Potter's Girls' Gymnasium Club (Waiuku), assisted by some members of the male gymnasium' class, gave a concert in the Public Hall on Satnrday night. October Ist, and gave an interesting display, which spoke well both for the Professor's tuition and his pupils' capabilities.
