The Inebriates.—Two first-offenders were fined 5/ each and costs, while one who did not appear forfeited a sovereign, which had been deposited as bail. Robert S. Kirkpatriek, a prohibited person, who was convicted for the second time within six months, was fined £1 and costs, and Rebecca McIntosh and John A. Piekford, who were also second offenders, were fined 10/ each or 48 hours' imprisonment.

Charge of Perjury.—A young man named Thomas Wil-mot Johnston was charged with committing perjury at Wellington on December 4 last. SubInspector Black, who secured a remand so that the accused could be tried on Thursday at Wellington, said he was arrested in Auckland last night on a warrant. A Tram-ear Nuisance. —A youth named Edward Hill pleaded drunkenness as an excuse for assaulting Edward Giek, a tram-car conductor. The prosecutor said he had to put Hill off the car last night because he vomited in it, but the accused got on again. When witness went up to him, Hill struck him in the mouth, cutting his lip. Hill said he had been drinking, and lost his temper when he was put off the car. He was fined £"3 and costs. Hill had used bad language during the incident, and for this he was fined £ 1 and costs in addition.

Alleged Theft of a Bicycle: William Albert Murray was charged with stealing a bicycle, value £ 18, the property of Grinlinton and Le Petit, on August 29. Sub-Inspector Black applied for a remand until Wednesday, and Mr. Martin, on behalf of the accused, agreed to this. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £10 each. Mr. Martin explained that the case was one in which v Murray deposited as security a bicycle he was purchasing on the hire-purchase system.
