HOCKEY.

Some very good form was shown in the A and B practice match, which wae held on the polo ground last Saturday, and the selectors have chosen a strong side to represent Auckland in their match with Poverty Bay to-day. In the A team Mason was the pick of the forward division, and he was well supported by Brook-Smith and Barry. Of the backs, Brown, Broadfoot, Hill and Court all played up to form. The ladies' hockey representative team played their second match of the tour against Hamilton on Tuesday last, and the result was a draw—no score. The country players are to be congratulated on their performance against their more experienced opponents.

The Poverty Bay representatives arrived from Gisborue on Thursday, and leave again for home on Tuesday" next. They will in all probability visit Thames on Monday, and play the Thames reps., returning to Auckland the same clay. The association entertained them at a smoke, concert, on Friday night, and the visitors are being shown round the city by the secretary of the association (Mr A. Brown).

The. new players to will representative honours are Millor and Brook-Smith (forwards) and W. Alien (full-back). These players fully deserve their places. Miller and Brook-Smith are both forwards of the dashing order, and clever with their sticks. The latter is also one of the most brilliant shots m Auckland, and has scored 11 goals in e.lub matches this season. Allen (fnll-back) is a clever player, and is no novice at the game, having played it in the Old Country for three seasons. JI P j s yPrv clever with his .stick, and a good rush stopper.

Barry. Mason and Lepine (forwards) have represented Auckland on more than one occasion with credit, and Broadfoot Sheriffs and Brown (halves, and Dr. Neil (goal) have also played in like positions last year.
