LAWN TENNIS.
Miss Hilda Hitehing3" was the champion tennis player of New Zealand up to the time she left for England.. She was playing the final for the silver cup given by the St. Quintin Club, Wimbledon., on June 28th, but news of the result has not yet reached us.
Another New Zealander who has beea spending his holidays playing lawn tennis in England is Mr A. F. Wilding, who is taking part in the Northumberland Tournament at Newcastle, Ha got into the third round of the Opea Championship of Northumberland, but wit then put out by that great player, H. L. Doherty, who after losing the first «t at I—6 smothered the New Zealander in the next two, which he won. at 6—3, 6—o respectively, Wilding's 'rashness being one of the chief cau3es of his decisive beating. In partnership witli W. C. Crawley, Wilding has reached the fourth round of the Gentleman's Doubles, and with Miss Longhurst as park ncr has survived the first round of tbe Mixed Doubles Championship.—London Correspondent.
