WAIHI MINING NEWS.

PEGGING OUT CLAIMS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. The list of eases eet down for the Warden's Court to-day is an exceptionally heavy one. There are several applications for special quartz claims on what is now estimated as the line of reef coming from the Waihi Extended and Pride of Waihi properties. Almost all likely country ahead of the Pride of Waihi has been pegged out, and a further area was pegged out to-day which was formerly known as the Emperor Claim. This claim is a continuation of the Martha spur, and will be known as the Waihi Martha S.Q.C. An application has been put in for the Martha llill Extended Claim of 09 acres, and the Martha North Claim of 34 acres. I -understand this application will be continued by Clem Conies, the wellknown prospector, who has also applied for thi? claim, on ihe grmrad of forfeiture. There are also several jumping cases of residence sites down for hearing. The Auckland syndicate owners of Waihi East Claim (late Churchill) have arranged for a report by Mr Malcolm Fleming, with assays of the lode, which is reported to be an immense body of ore with 120 feet of backs from the river level. It is thought probable that richer ore will be met with on the lower levels as the mine is developed. Mr Simmons, general manager of the Waihi Grand Junction mine, who cabled Home to the directors last week recommending the application of the Waihi Extended Company to drive on their: reef into the Junction mine, in order to ' connect with the Junction's drive, has received a favourable reply, and nowdriving on the reef is being proceeded with. NEW MOANATAIARI. Shares in the New Moanataiari Company changed hands at 1/10 this morning, with further buyers at 1/9. The larger part of the parcel crushed was from the stopes on the reef in No. 3 level, and the remainder is from the winze being sunk on the reef from the same level. In the New Moanataiari mine there are several hundred feet before the water level is reached, so that the presence of good ore in the Moanataiari gives assurance to the adjoining properties. The following telegram, giving the result of the crushing, was posted on the Exchange this afternoon: "Have crush- ' ed 7 loads from the winze for 31oz oV melted gold, and 34 loads from th/e stopes for 340z of melted gold. The estimated value of the gold is £2 1,5/ per ounce. The winze is now do wn about 28 feet. The reef looks well/ The 65 loads treated returned a'oout £280 worth of bullion, which shoulfl be considei I very satisfactory, mon; especially as the seven loads frorj the winze yielded about 4Joz to the ?eadWAIHI WARDEN'S COUFff.
