AMUSEMENTS.

ACROBATS AT THE OPERA HOUSE. The two brothers Uesseras gave a marvellous acrobatic performance last night at the Opera House, where Mr John Fuller's variety company is thoroughly establishing itself in popular favour. The house was packed, and many had to go away disappointed owing to inability to secure a seat. Remarkable enthusiasm was displayed when the German acrobats showed their capabilities, for it seemed hardly credible that sucli iron strength of muscle and wonderful facility of balancing upon head and hand could be acquired by anyone. The turn was arranged so that each feat was more wonderful than the clever one it succeeded, until the final feut reached a degree of acrobatic skill hardly ever equalled on the variety stage. The performers, simply grasping each other's hands, and utilising their powerful arms and dexterous balancing. seemed to easily reach a head to head position. First one brother balanced feet upwards upon his hands on his brother's shoulder?. Then he repeated the feat on one hand, and finally, it was head to head, without any extraneous aid excepting a strong skull cap on one of the performer's heads. It was sufficiently marvellous to do these things on the firm foothold of the stag. , , but when they were performed on double , ladders, only kept in a perpendicular position by the hands of the lower acrobat, as he mounted the. rungs, balancing Ins brother feet upwards, on his head, the applause, which had been continuous before, was now silent, the audience fearing to make a sign of its approval until the risky feat had concluded. Then the crowded house stormed its applause, and the Uessems knew that their first appearance in New Zealand had been a notable success. Many other items on the long programme were also well received.
