SHOCKING FATALITY.

' ■ FALL- OF A BUILDING. YOUNG MAN'S VIOLENT DEATH. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent,)

TAURANGA. this day. This morning about 8.30 o'clock. ;i young nian named Joseph Dalton, son of Mr J. E. Dalton. native interpreter, met his death in a shocking manner. He was employed by Mr Grayson, contractor, of Auckland, in removing the district school to a central site. One part of the building, weighing about 30 tons, was on temporary supports and screw-jacks, deceased being underneath at work. i A heavy squall struck the building, ! causing the supports and the jacks to tilt over and allow the building to drop. Deceased appears to have tried to escape, but his head was caught between the ground plate of the school and a' baulk of timber supporting the jacks and was crushed to a pulp. . Mr Gtayson was so horror-struck at the disaster that he had to he taken away. Mr J. C. Adams, a local builder, was quickly ou the spot, and took charge of the operations, lifting the building to extricate the body, which presented a shocking sight. Deceased was aged about 20, a fine young fellow, well liked, and a good cricketer. The event has caused a very painful sensation in town. An inquest is being held this afternoon.
