HOCKEY.

Tb-> junior championship was concluded last Saturday, when Auckland, by defeating United ov 3 goals to 1, again won the junior championship. The winners well deserve the premier position, as they have won every match they played, and scored 60 goals, and Bad only 4 scored against them. The United 11., runners up, have also a good record, and have won 10 games and lost 2, both to Auckland, and scored 59 goals to 7. The following table will show the position of the teams that competed for the junior championship:

The North v. South Island match will be played at Wellington on Saturday, August 27. The Northern S.S. Co. have kindly arranged to delay the sailing of the s.s. Ngapuhi from Whangarei on August 25 till 5 p.m., so that the Auckland hockey players can return the same day. The team fat is to visit Whangarei will be chosen early neit week. I hear a number of the crack players will be unable to go, but no doubt the team will give the Whangarei players a good game. The Waihi hockey players were very disappointed that the local players did not visit them on August 13th, but it is almost certain a strong team will be sent to Waihi next Saturday. Poverty Bay are sending a representative team to Auckland on September 10, and as they are staying up about a week no doubt matches will be arranged with some of the country associations. The ladies* representative team leave for Hamilton, Uotorua ai;d Paeroa on Friday, August 26, and tney should have a successful trip. Auckland A defeated United A by 3 goals to 1, after a fast and interesting game. The winners' combination proved too good for their opponents, and their backs were also safer. In the forward division, Young, Jessup and Donovan were the pick. Auckram did not keep his place enough, and Murray did not show his usual dash. In the back division Reid, at centre half, played a splendid game, and P. Lepine, at full-back, was very safe and got in some excellent hits. For the losers Marsden and Reid were the best forwards, and St. Paul and Gosset, in the backs, showed up well. The match AucHand v. Poverty Bay will in all probability be played on the hockey ground at Remuera station, as Alexandra Park is engaged by the Hunt Club for September 10. The Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association are sending a representative team to Rotorua, Paeroa and Hamilton, leav ing Auckland on Saturday, the 27th inst., for Rotorua, As the Wednesday practice had to be postponed, owing to the weather, the first A and B trial takes place to-day. Next week's A and B trials will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Wapiti Hockey Club is sending their senior team to play at Rotorua, Paeroa, and Hamilton, leaving Auckland with the representative team.
