"PUNCH'S CRICKET LAWS.
AMUSING TRAVESTY OF THE RULES OF THE GAME. ' "Punch" has been startled by the originality and enterprise of the unique cricket reporting scheme which has just been initiated by the "Daily Mall." The occasion has, indeed, inspired "Punch" wttn new; "snapshot" rules of the game, which appear in this week's Issue, and from wl__i we take these extracts:— THE LAWS OF CRlC__T(Latest version.) THE GAME. X. A match is played between two sides' of eleven ready writers each. Each side has two innings and a reserve supply of pens and ink. APPOINTMENT OF UMPIRES. IL Before the commencement of the match two umpires shall be appointed, one for each end. They must both write a dear hand and be proficient spellers. THE BALK IV. The ball shall weigh not less than five ounces and a half, when filled with ink. At the beginning "of each innings it must be refilled. THE BAT. V. The bat .... most contain a fountain pen in the handle, like a swordstick. THE PADS. VIII. The pads must be blotting pads. THE BOWLER. __. The bowler may be allowed to make notes between the delivery of.-each bail. While he is doing so the ball shall be considered dead. THE WICKET KEEPER. XIIX The wicket keeper may rest his writing pad on the top of the stumps, but he must not remove the balls in doing so. THE STRIKER. XVL—iThe striker shall be out If in his report of the match he splits an infinitive.
