a The fortn-ightly meeting of the Ponsonby branch of the W.C.T.U. was held yesterday at St. John's Schoolroom, Ponsonby-road. A paper was read describing a recent visit of a member to Lady Henry Somerset's Industrial Farm for Inebriate Women, DeerUurst. Beigate, Surrey. A few souvenirs trf work done by the patients were on exhibition and afforded much interest. A reading, entitled "Another Burden," was also given, proving the use of such an Institution. THAMES DRAINAGE BOARD. •' A meeting of the Thames Drainage Board was held yesterday afternoon at the office of Mr Nlccol, Victoria Arcade those piesent being Messrs Duntop, Paul, Hesketh. Greeu, Mucky. Tr««i bath and Adams. The reading of the fi-ance-sheet and report then took place, and showed a credit balance ot *528 13/11The contributions unpaid showed a total of £°52 10/8. The animal smoke concert of the Auckland Builders' Labourers' Union was held last night in the Foresters' HaU, Newton. and was an unqualified success, about -W being present. An apology was received from Mr Julian, who was indisposed, but wro c expressing bis support, enclosing £1 1/ towards expenses. The first toast wns that of "Tun King." which was welcomed by ringing cheers and bumpers. -The Trades and Lalx>ur Council was lesnonded by Mr K.
