COMPANY MEETINGS.
The annual meeting of the Auckland Racing Club was held on August Ist. It was shown that during the year four meetings had been held on thirteen days, giving in added money £21,445. Totalisator investments amounted to £155,521, compared with £150,414 last year. The net profit carried to capital account was £1575 7/2. At the half-yearly meeting of the Auckland Gas Company, held on July 27, receipts for the previous six months were shown to have totalled £40,200 4/5. and expenditure £30,234 13/11, leaving a balance of _ 15,965 10/0. A dividend of 7/6 per share was authorised, absorbing _ 12,835 17/G, and the balance £3129 13/ was carried forward.
A meeting of shareholders in Austin Walsh and Co., Ltd., was held at Auckland on August 3rd. when it was resolved to go into liquidation. The liabilities were stated to be £21.508 5/10, and the a-sets £0125 11/10. The failure of the Company was attributed to business having been hampered by want of capital and rendered unprofitable by reason of its opponents having secured a monopoly of trade in tobacco, cigars and cigarettes.
