CRACKS IN THE EARTH.

MUD THROWN OUT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) I WELLINGTON, this day. The postmaster at Castle Point further reports that within a radius of about half a mile the earth is cracked in several directions, from an inch to an inch and a-half wide. In several places from a bucket to two bucketsful of mud were thrown out. The natives say it is similar to that thrown up at Taupo. From the mouth of the Whakataki stream for a mile up the water is very thick and disturbed, but beyond that it is perfectly clear. I [Castle Point is on the East Coast, due east of Masterton.] DAMAGE IN NAPIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPD2R, this day. The damage done by the earthquake in Napier will probably total a large amount. The parapet of the New Zealand Insurance Company's building has an inward curve of half an inch, and a heavy ornament that surmounts the front of Dalgety and Co.'s adjoining building has a pronounced leaning from f.he perpendicular to the north. Part of the new Government building in Shakes-oeare-road shows a crack neat the ornamental scroll at the top of the facade. A big chimney at Holt's timber mill has been badly cracked, and a portion of it will have to be pulled down. Two men were slightly injured in their hurry to get out of one of the buildings, one having jumped from a second-storey s,vindow. In the monumental stone yards of Mr C. H. Mott and Mr J. Waterworth considerable damage was done, several completed stones being thrown the ground and broken. Messrs. Worrall and Co. are losers to the extent of ibout £60 or £70, through a smash in their crockery warehouse. j
