LAUNCH OF A STEAMER.
I The new steamer Gael; built by Mr. Chas. Bailey, junf.j to the order of the McGregor Steamship Company, was launched at noon to-day in the presence of about 200 people, representative of the maritime and commercial interests of- : the city. The christening ceremony was performed by Miss Olive Coaties, a daugh- j ter of Mr. Thps. Coates, of Mangawai, j one of the shareholders of the- com-! pany. The bottle of champagne used in the ceremony was decorated with the, McGregor tartan- The vessel presented a handsome appearance in the water. She was gaily decorated with bunting. The Gael was subsequently berthed at the Queen-street wharf, where her -engines and boiler will be placed in position. The Gael, which was described in the "Star" recently, relieves the Kawau in the Mangawai trade.
