NELSON, Wednesday, A vote of city ratepayers was taken to-day as to whether Mr Mestayer's scheme of drainage, involving an expenditure of £55.000, and providing a complete separate system for the city, should be adopted. The proposal was carried by a majority of 110, the voting being 463 for and 353 against. WELLLNGTON, this day. Mr McArthur, S.M., to-day held that two-up was a game of chance pure and simple, and recorded a conviction and a penalty of £3 in one of several cases, others being deferred to allow of an appeal. At the annual meeting of the Patent Slip Company a dividend of eight per cent, and a bonus of 2/ per share were declared. The amount carried forward is £19S1 6/8-
