LATE RACING.

ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES.

The weather was very wet at Ellerslie j this morning, and most of the work was : done In heavy rain. The coarse proper was thrown open, and the majority of the trainers took advantage of it to work their charges. Lady Annie was first out, aud ran seven furlongs alone In 1.33. Idas got a good break on Numa at the start of five furlongs, which Numa was unable to make up, Idas running the distance in 1.6 1-5. Idasa, alone, ran a mile in 1.51 ft. Delania finished in front of Scotty at the end of six furlongs, run in 1.215. Dunmore assisted over the last four furlongs. Sonoma spurted four furlongs, the last three taking 39 2-5. Newtown had five lengths' advantage of Tahae at the end of six furlongs, run In 1.215. Beau Seaton and Lualla were companions over five furlongs, run in 1.8. Beau Seaton finishing In front. Mauku and Lady Norval took 1.13-$ to cover the same distance: neither were ridden out. Minna finished in front of Bloodstone over five furlongs in 1.95. St. Olga and Bonomiana were together at the end of seven furlongs, run In 1.375; St. Olga was under a strong pull. Dolores, assisted by Soultflsh over the last six furlongs, galloped seven furlongs In 1.36 3-5, Dolores having the advantage at the finish. Baltimore on the sand, alone, galloped six furlongs, the last five taking 1.8. Yolette held Avalanche at the end of seven furlongs on the tan in 1.315. After breakfast the weather cleared, aud was fine overhead during the work. Tnkapa had the best of Cavalry over six furlongs, ran In 1.21. Silvermere, assisted by a pony, spurted four furlongs In 55sec. Hipstone. alone, covered a mile in 1.55. Mars, assisted over the last six furlongs by The Needle, doing the same journey la 1.515. Solo and Hohoro were ridden out over five furlongs, run In 1.8 1-5, Solo finishing in front. The weather was greatly against Hohoro. Durable. Maro, and Paratutu finished together at the end of six furlongs, run In I.l9—the fastest of the morning. Paratntu lost two or three lengths at the start. Alba Rose spurted four fnrloncs in s."seo. Crecy. alone, galloped five furlongs In 1.10. Daffodil sprinted four furlongs In 54 1-5, and Val Rosa and Hippowal ran a wile in 1.57 4-5. A number of other horses were out and performed nseful tasks. J. Gallagher, who has been one of our leading horsemen for a number of years, has accepted a retainer from the Hon. J. D. Ormond, and will take the position (vacated by the resignation of F. Davis) of first horseman for that gentleman. Putty changed hands yesterday, being purchased by Mr R. Patterson, of Wellington. The amount paid for him has net transpired. WELLINGTON RACES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Wet weather set in this morning, and it was doubtful at first whether the first day of the Wellington Jockey Club's meeting would not have to be postponed. The stewards met at 10 a.m.. and decided to go on. The day shows signs of clearing, but there Is still a slight drizzle. The course Is a little holding, and likely to cut up during the day. The attendance will be seriously affected by the threatening weather. Owing to the totalisators not being in a position to accept Investments, the nrst race, arranged to start at noon, was delayed half an hour. Results:— Wiuwetu Handicap. — Petrovna, 8.12, 1; Dexterity, 8.8, 2; Shrapnel Shell, 7.13, 3. Scratched: Field Battery, Little Turk.Lady Bol :$, and Torowai. A good race.
