VOLUNTEER NOTES.

Sergeant Tanner, of the Coromandel District' High School Cadets, has won the education district prize medal, 1003, for the, Auckland-district, with a score of 70 points. Sergeant Tanner is a son of Mr T. B. Tanner, formerly headmaster of the Tauranga public school. The send-off by the Victoria Rides to Private W. Cox, one of the Bisley team, took place at the Strand Arcade on Tuesday evening. Captain Skinner made some eulogistic references to Private Cox's shooting, which he said did «redit to one of the best shooting corps in the colony. Private Cox replying, attributed, the progress or himself and other young marksmen in the Victoria Rifles to the great assistance given them by the captain and other old members. He felt that there were other members equally fit with himself to go to Bisley. Duriug the evening Bombardier Valentine, instructor of the Maxim team which secured success at Rotorua, was presented with a photographic shield of the team. Songs and instrumental items were rendered, and helped to make up a most enjoyable evening.
