AUCKLAND RUGBY UNION.

The new management committee of the ABU. held its first meeting in Sports Club last evening. Mr M. J. Sheahan was elected chairman for the ensuing term. Communications from the N.Z. Rugby TJnion re proposed trip to England of the New Zealand footballers were received. Mr Geo. Dixon was chosen to represent the A.B.TJ. on the N.Z. Rugby Union Committee. Detail matters in connection with the coming season were dealt with. A conference with the officials of the Public Schools R.U. was decided upon, with the object of furthering the Interests of junior football. The Newton Club asked permission to play the Rotorua football team on Saturday, 80th, at Alexandra Park. The Ponsonby Club also applied for the use of the ground on the same day. The drawing for the cup contests will take place next Wednesday evening. ORGAN RECITAL AT AVONDALB. Last evening an orsan recital was given In St. Jude's Church, Avondale, by Mr Sharp, late organist of Napier Cathedral, to a crowded audience. The programme opened by the singing of Hymn 165. A. and M., by choir and congregation. Mr Sharp's selections were Dubois* "Toceato," Boccharini's "Minuet." Scotson Clark's "Flambeaux March," and "Hallelujah Crorus" from the "Messiah." Considering the smallness of the organ, Mr Sharp gave an excellent rendering of the several pieces, proving himself a finished organist. Mr G. Higgott. who possesses a baritone voice of fine quality, sang Pontet's "Last Milestone." Mrs J. R. Simpson gave a beautiful rendering of Gounod's "There is a Green Hill." Miss H. Bollard sang with feeling Cowan's "I Will Give You Rest." Mr R. Aickin sang Rerchardt's song "Absolom," which suited his fine bass voice. The choir gave three anthems—TxlmmeH's "The Earth is the Lords," Woodward's "Radiant Morn," and Caleb Bimper's "King of Kings," which showed careful training on the part of the choirmaster, Mr J. R. Simpson. Last evening the 1.0. G.T. Star of Victoria held an open-night night In the Primitive Church, Newmarket. Visitors from the Newton and Birkdale Lodges were present. Musical and other items were given' by Sisters Chapman, Hicks, Carnahau, Randle, and Bros. Campbell, Belcher, Dyer, Gulley, Myers, Spragg, White, and Pugbl Refreshmenta were provided.
