Papatu is going in good style at Ellerslie, and may be worth keeping in mind for future events. Tukapa ran away from Cavalry over seven furlongs yesterday morning, and covered the distance in 1.31J, the fastest of the morning. Alba Rose, who arrived from bh» South last week to fulfil her Avondale engagements, was responsible for a fast half-mile on the grass yesterday morning, the distance being left behind in 49 4-ssec. It is understood that V. Cotton, the sucessful lightweight, will have the mount on Durable in tbe Avoudale Handicap. . SYDNEY, this day. The New Zealand bred stallion Russley Is dead. Lissa went twice round at half-pace, Treadmill doing the same journey at a good strong pace. Cannle Chiel did a round at three-quarter pace. Jewellery and Lady Bobs did alow work. Signalman and Brave Heart covered six furlongs on the course proper at a good working gallop. Shrapnel, Kremlin, and Petrovna sprintsd four furlongs in 50 seconds. Petrovna was in front at the finish, with Shrapnel' several •lengths away last. Blackstone and Brighton galloped six furlongs on the course pi-oper in 1.20. Canteen and Vladimir went twice Tound at half-pace. Full Cry and Black Reynard did similar work. Regulation moved really well over five furlongs. Fleka and Optimist covered seven furlongs in 1.35. Catherine Gordon and Slow Tom -went twice round at a medium working gallop, Delight and Black Squall doing the same journey at halfpace. Indian Shot, Jeanne d'Albert and Catrlel ran seven furlongs on the tan iv 1.32. Matuku and Solution spurted half a mile in 52 seconds from a standing start. Golden Lily and Martian ran six furlongs on the tan in 1.15. Golden Lily, ridden out, beat Martian by about two lengths. Mldia and Dexterity covered seven furlongs in 1.33, Dexterity finishing in front. Rebua covered six furlongs alone at threequarter pace. " Machine Gun and Bagpipes ran seven furlongs on the tan in 1.30. The mare appeared to have the best of the gallop. Livonia and Possibility, from a flying start, sprinted half a mile on the tan in" 50 seconds. Starshoot alone did a useful gallop over six furlongs, Melodeon doing a similar task, and running the six furlongs In 3,17.
