ONE ON THE JOKER.
i ■ — The practical joker approached tbe guileless-looking young man with a smile. "Ever seen the funnel trick?" he asked. '•'No," said the guileless one. "What is it?" The practical joker produced a funnel he had borrowed from his hostess, and cast one eye round to see if the waterjug was within reach. "Well,"' he said, with a gargantuan grin, "you place a penny on your forehead, put the funnel in your waistcoat, and the trick is to jerk the penny into the funnel first try." "I may be very dull," said the guileless young male person, "but I'm afraid I don't follow you. Perhaps you will show mc what you mean." '•"Why, certainly!" said the joker. "Like this, see?" And he carefully balanced a penny on his forehead, and placed the runnel in the opening of his waistcoat. "Oh, yes," said the guilelss one, as he calmly emptied ,the water-jut? into the funnel. I have seen that trick before." And the practical joker, who hid, of course, intended to do this to tht> innocent young man, gnashed his teeth.
