THE BATTLESHIP NEW ZEALAND.
The Education Board have received a circular from the Mayor of Timaru,» I who i≤ chairman of the committee sec up to raise a fund for the purpose of making a presentation to tht battleship New Zealand. The Board were asked to bring the matter under the notice of the school teachers of the district, and to point out the importance and significance of the proposal. It was suggested that the teachers be asked to appoint a day for the children to bring their pennies, and that the amount collected be forwarded to headquarters as promptly as possible. It wa3 proposed to devote the amount received from the children to the purchase of a suitable piece of piate in the form of a shield or other trophy emblematic of New ] Zealand, engraved: "Presented by the children of New Zealand." The chairman (Mr Hobbs) spoke strongly in favour of the idea, and \ thought that they should endeavour, without putting pressure on the children in any way, to make the movement a success. It was decided to comply with the request in the circular.
