BOWLING.

The championship of the Remuera Club will be decided to-day, when Mr George Court meets Mr H. Kent. As both players are in good form an interesting and even game should eventuate. A large amount of enthusiasm has been created by the Edwin Stars competition on the Remuera green. The stars are presented by Captain Edwin, R.N., of Wellington, ajid competition amongst members of the Remuera Club will evolve a champion +-cam to challenge other clubs who wish to secure the transfer of the trophies. The secretary intimates that he has already received several challenges from Auckland clubs, and the competitions which will result are sure to create a great deal of interest. First year players of the Rocky Nook Club are looking forward to having a "go" for the Equitable Shield, and are practising most assiduously in anticipation of the event. A team consisting of Scott, Craig, Rewcastle, and Gwilliam (skip), played a team of ?eniors (Rathbone, Benton, Haselden, and Bouskill — skip), and acquitted themselves most creditably, the scores being—£rst years Iβ. seniors 18. The final for the Rocky Nook champion fours was played on Saturday between teams skippered by Messrs. Bouskill and Hodgson, the teams and scores being: Craig. Taylor, Fletcher, and Bouskill (skip). 25, v. E. Ballin, Gwilliam, Kayes, and Hodgsoa (skip), 18. The match was splendidly contested, the result being in doubt up to the 20th bead, when Bouskill's team had a lead of three. In the last head Hodgson tried for four, but failed, and gave four to Bouskill. ' The consistent play of Willie Taylor, Bouskill's second man, was the feature of the match. Scott, a first year player of the Rocky Nook Club, defeated the veteran Bouskill in the handicap singles without the aid of his handicap, the scores being Scott 21. Bouskill 17. W. Taylor showed a complete reversal of form when playing in the handicap singles on the same afternoon, when he was badly beaten by Neale by 22 to 7. The third round of the Rocky Nook champion singles will be very interesting, as most of the senior players are still in it. Good games are anticipated when Bouskill. Butler. Haselden, Hodgson, Rathbone, and others meet, as all are playing well. Brown and Burns had a ding-dong "go" on the Mount Eden green on Monday last. Burns winning by 22—18, the ex-champion acknowledging that it was the best game of bowls he ever played in his life. Two rinks from Mount Eden intend visiting Rocky Nook on Saturday, where they anticipate a most enjoyable time. Mount Eden is sending four or five rinks to Rotorua for the carnival. The present holders, Messrs. Rankin, Mercer, Brimblecombe, and Kewland will require a lot of beating, and they have the good wishes of all bowlers for success. Amongst the first year's players a good man has been unearthed, he being H. Ross, who easily beat the favourite on Saturday last. The executive of the Mount Eden committee deserve great praise for the progress made in all club matches, as all aro well under way and near completion. The championship of Devonport Club now lies between Eagleton and Gardner, the former having met and defeated Niccol in the semi-final last Saturday. A start has at last been made with the first season players match at Devonport, which, for some unaccountable reason, has been unduly postponed. Mason and Kilmartin were the first to try conclusions, the result being a decided win for Mason. McCallum and Sproule also had a set-to, but could only play 14 heads, when dusk compelled an adjournment. The game stands at 12 all, and the sequel is waited with much interest. The Devonport juniors this season are a very promising lot, and should show up well in the approaching inter-club contests for the shield. I am very pleased to see that trophies have now been provided for the holders of the Dei-onpoft club's challenge fours. On Saturday the present holders, Messrs Webster, W. Mitchell, Miller and Eagleton (skip), were presented with medals by the president. It was a drawback to the popularity of these competitions that no trophy went to the winners of the various contests. I
