A good golfing yarn la told by a contemporary. A novice went to the links early one morning to practise, when no one was t-here to witness his Lick of skill. A caddie followed him to tbe t.ee, and offered to go round with him for e.ljrtrteenponee. "Never mind, my boy. I shall manasc," the player replied, mnklng a magnificent swing «t th<* ball and missinj; it by a foot. "I say. mister." said th<- caddie "I'D go round with yon for a shilling." The player declined, and tried to look self-possessed. Hp made another swing at the ball and missed it again. "I say, mister." said the boy, "I'll go with yon for sixpence" By that tiirrt* <thr> man was rattled, and struck at the ball three time,':. "Won't yon tak« mc for nothing?" askvd the boy now. "I'll. go round for the fnn of it."
