ANGLICAN GENERAL SYNOD.

YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. The Anglican General Synod continued their sittings yesterday afternoon at St. Sepulchre's schoolroom. Burleigh-street, the Most Rev. the Primate presiding. AUCKLAND DIOCESAX TRUSTS. A. report of the Committee on a^ports of Trustees was presented, dealing with the reports and accounts of the several trusts in the Diocese of Auckland. The committee found that certain expenses of the several Church Trust appeared to be very high. They recommended that there should be certain alterations in the methods of preparing the accounts of the St. John's College Trust, that £SOO appeared to have been transferred from the Maria Blackett Scholarship Account to the General Endowment Fund without adequate authority. The committee was pleased to note that the charges on the Melanesian Mission Trust for clerical and office expenses had been considerably reduced. The accounts of the expenses of the Synod left a balance of £200 13/5 to be provided for. NEXT SESSION: A MELANESIAN PROPOSAL. 1 Dean Fitchett moved and the motion was carried: "That the General Synod meet for its next Triennial Session at Dunedin on Thursday, January 17, 1907." In the evening, Dean Fitchett secured the permission of the Synod to introduce a resolution at the request of the Bishop of Melanesia that, notwithstanding thei resolution already adopted on the subject of the next meeting place, it should be I agreed that if the Primate in consultation with the Bishop of Melanesia find It work-; able, that the session of I!W7 be held in I Norfolk Island. j Bishop Julius seconded, and the motion! was carried on the voices. SERVICES TO THE CHtRCH. Archdeacon Harper moved, and Mr Upton seconded: 'That this Synod desires to put on record Its sense of the value of the services rendered to the Church by the late Most Reverend William Garden Cowie, D.D., Bishop of Auckland and Primate of the Provincial Church of New Zealand." The motion was agreed to in! silence, the members standing. Archdeacon Harper moved, and Dean Hovell seconded: "That this Synod desires to pluce on record its appreciation of the services rendered to the Church in various capacities by the late Yen. Archdeacon Henry Govett, Venerable Archdeacon George James Cholmondeley: Venerable Archdeacon Benjamin Thornton Dudley, Venerable Archdeacon Edward Alberton Lingard, Venerable John Palmer, lion. Colonel Haultain, Arkin Jamra CotterilL, and William Wood, all of whom have been members of the General Synod." The motion was carried, the members standing. POWERS OF TRUSTEES. Canon Mac Murray moved: "That Trustes be empowered to grant leases under the provisions of the Public Bodies' Powers Art. ISS7, and Amendments Acts. IS9I and lS'.Hj. , ' The motion was iost uu division. THEOLOGICAL STUDIES?. The resolution:: brought up by the Board of Theological studies with respect to the admission of candidates to examination in Grades 111. and IV. wen; passed. SEE HOUSES. The Synod went into committee to consider the report of the committee on See Houses, Mr Uptou presiding. The resolution as amended in committee were agreed to by the Synod as follows:—(1) That this Synod urges on the authorities of the Diocese of Waiapu the imperative necessity of taking immediate stepj to erect a See House on the site already acquired for that purpose. (2) That until the net annual income of the Bishopric Endowment Fund lof the Diocese of Auckland shall have | reached the sum of £10W, and a suitable See House, free of debt, has been erected, the Synod directs the General Trust Board of the Diocese of Auckland to apply all rents, issues, and profits aiising from the Cathedral Site and the Blshopscourt Site (a and b In schedule attached to deed of August i), 1859, registration No. 37255) to I the erection, maintenance or repair of a Bishop's House for the Diocese of Aucklnnd. (3) That the General Trust Board of the Diocese of Auckland be empowered to lease any portion of the Bishopscourt bite for building purposes. Provided that the approval of the Synod of the Diocese be first obtained. I EVENING SITTING. WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE. When the second reading of he bill introduced by Air Tanner for the extension of the franchise was reached in the evening, Canon Mac Murray moved that the next business be taken. This was carried on division, the figures being:—Bishops ayes 4, noes nil ; clergy—ayes 10, noes 4 ; laity —ayes 14, noes 2. TRIAL OF BISHOPS. The House went into committee on the bill to formulate Title D, Canon 111., dealing with the trial of bishops, introduced by the Bishop of Waiapu. The bill was reported unamended. PROPOSED PERMANENT SECRETARY. The recommendations of the select committee appointed to consider the creation of the office of a permanent secretary, introduced by Mr Fielder, were considered in committee and reported unamended. NOMINATION OF BISHOPS. The Bishop of Wellington (on behalf of Mr H. W. Quick) moved the second reading of the bill amending the canons dealing with the nomination of bishops by providing that each standing committee should be furnished with full information as to the reasons for nomination. As the hour was late and the attendance small. His Lordship secured leave to withdraw the bill. NOTICE OF MOTION. Archdeacon Harper gave notice of motion to re-introduce in the 1907 session his bill to amend the fundamental provisions of the constitution to provide for the necessary autonomy of the New Zealand Church. VOTES OP THANKS. The sitting was prolonged until nearly 11.30 o'clock, in order to complete the business, the final Items being votes of thanks to the secretaries and chairmen of committees and the press. The later was proposed by the Rev. C. C. Harper, clerical secretary, who paid a high tribute to the accuracy of the Auckland press, which he considered could do justice to whatever It took in hand. Cordial thanks were expressed to all who had extended hospitality to the Synod members.
