THAMES NEWS.

THAMES, this day. Three rinks of Te Aroha bowlers arrived at ihe Thames this morning to play the annual match against local bowlers. They were received by Mr. Court, president of the Thames club, and cordially welcomed, shown around the town, and entertained at lunch in the Junction HoteL The match, in v-.hic-ii a good«deal of interest is taken, is being played this afternoon. William Frew, who was injured in a flax mill, and whose arm was amputated last night, was slightly better this morning', but is still suffering from shock. His right thigh was fractured. Price's foundry employees held a picnic at Omahu to-day. Several hundred journeyed from Thames by special train. Some little feeling is being shown between the Miners' Union and the Jockey Club over the refusal to the latter of a totalisator license for a race meeting on Miners' Union Day, which has necessitated postponement of the races to the 24th March. The Jockey Club accuse the Miners' Union of discourtesy in not replying to an intimation that the £20 bonus given for the use of day would be discontinued, while the Miners' Union hold they were perfectly justified in placing the facts before the Colonial Secretary for his consideration.
