(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. Tour correspondent has it from a fairly reliable source that applications for the managership of the new State tire Insurance Department have been narrowed down to three before arriving at a final choice. The Government dccid s "- --cd to searchingly inquire into qualifications of three candidates. In resard to the appointment of auditor of the Bank of New Zealand my informant states that the Government is 'not convinced that a satisfactory appointment could be made from the present list of applicants, hence the reason for the matter not having been settled earlier. A3 showing the expense the hospital trustees have been put to during the past two years owing to the prevalence of infectious diseases in Wellington district, it may be stated that the sum expended in infectious cases m 1899 was only £108. which by 1902 had increased to £2000, while last Tear the figures were £2400.
