HELENSVILLE SHOW.

This show, which was held ou Mr W. Downer's property, Helensville on Wednes- , day. was attended by between 300 and 400 people. It had rained heavily in the early part of the forenoon, and towards iniddav . there was every indication of a continued ; j wet day. At 12.30 p.m., quite unexpectedly, it cleared, and the remainder of the day was perfect. There is no doubt that the threatening aspect of the weather militated against the attendance. The arrangements generally, were far from perfect and had it not been for The efforts of Mr C. 11. Spinley, a former secretary, it would have been impossible for the pressmen to have framed their report. He spared neither time nor trouble in assisting the re]>orters, and we take this opportunity of tendering him our best thanks. Mr J. Phillips (Auckland! judged the horse classes. Mr A. R. Harris (Otahuhu) the cattle. Mr John Bollard, M.H.R. (Avondale) sheep and pigs. Mr J. G. RutherfoiM (Kemuerai dairy produce. Mr H. E. Sharp (Waikumetei field and garden produce, and Mrs Foster < Wairaamaku) preserves and miscellaneous classes. The riding and driving competitions provoked a good deal of interest. Mrs Shortcliffe was awarded first prize in the class for best lady rider: 11. Newman was first and James Hand second iv amateur gentleman riders in a class of 10 entries; C. Downer first and R. Downer second in gentleman riders lopenl in a class of eight entries: and the liij.-h jump competition was won by Mr F. Dye's Starlight, who cleared 4ft. and Miss Newman was first and Mr Waaler second in the competition for best driver ilady or gentleman).
