HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The fortnightly meetinff of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held iv the Board's office, High street, yesterday afternoon. Mr G. J. Garland, chairman, presided,and there were also present Messrs J. Court. A. R. Harris, L. J, Bagnall, J. A. Beale, M. Casey, and J. R. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. Bollard, M.H.R., who suggested that the report of the Royal Commission should not be considered until next meeting. Dispensary.—Dγ Hooper reported tliat the average daily patients at the dispensary during the past fortnight had been eight, and the attendances three; 2T3 prescriptions were compounded. Fees for Returned Troopers.—The chairman reported the result oC the deputation which waited on the Premier with reference to the payment of medical fees for Southern troopera who retnrned by the Montrose, The Premier promised to pay the account of £218. Ambulance. — The district health officer reported that the ambulance obtained at the rwjneat of the local bodies for infections diseases eases had cost £123 7/1 L Tiie rider added to their verdict by the jury in the case of John Lyons, in reference to the state of the ambulance, was received from the district coroner. It was decided to obtain the opinion of the hon. medical staff of the hospital as to what was necessary to make the vehicle efficient and comfortable, the chairman being empowered to carry out their recommendations.

Finance.—The secretary reported that the receipts during the month were £G4O C/ 6, and the expenditure £2018 15/, the credit balance at date being £2345 13/(5. Local ■bodies' contributions now doe were £4733

Ileturn.-/The officer in charge re-ported that the nonibiT of patients in tae hospital w*a 61 males and 54 females, as against 92 males and 58 females a fortnight ago. The deaths were 7 males and 5 females. The secretary stated that the present total of patients was the lowest for a very long time. The matron reported that the nursing staff consisted of 54.

Costley Home. —The Board sanctioned the appointment of a third assistant nnree for the Costley Home at a salary of £40.—1n answer to Mr Harris, the chairman said that tie appointment was in contemplation lone before the lioyal Conuniasion sat.
