Some specimens of quartz procured from the Eliza claim show gold freely.
COROMANDEL, this clay. VAUGHAN. Messrs. Danby and Kirk treated 60 lbs. of picked stone Irom this claim at the School of Mines battery for a yield of 24 ozs. sd\vts.' of retorted gold. The bullion is valued approximately at £70. HAURAKI FREEHOLDS. A shipment of about 24 loads of general ore, together with picked stone, is being forwarded to the Thames by the Rock Lily for treatment at the May Queen Extended battery. / GOLDEN SPARK. Driving on the leader intersected at the low level is proceeding. The reef is a fine body of ore 12 inches wide. Good gold is visible in the stone broken out. Driving will he continued until the junction of the Van and Sandard reefs is met with, when a start will be made to rise up to the winze. When this work is completed there will be a splendid block for stoping. WELCOME JACK. Messrs. W. Hunter and party, owners of this mine, have completed the treatment of 30 tons of ore for a return of 21ozs. of bullion valued approximately at £45.
This yield is considered to be highly satisfactory.
