AQUATICS.

The schooner-yacht La Carabine, which Mr Chas. Bailey is building to the order of Sir Rupert Clarke, is expected? to be ready for launching next month.' Workmen are now engaged in caulking the seams, and good progress is being made with the deck and saloon fittings. The owner is expected in Auckland in November, when the yacht will most likely be placed in commission for her cruis» to the Islands.

Messrs. Bailey and Lowe will launch next week a handsome motor launch, built to the order of Mr P. Hadley. The boat ia built on the torpedo stern type, her principal dimensions being: Length overall 36ft.,-beam 6ft., and extreme draught at propeller 2ft. 9in. The hull is painted white, picked out in gold, and all the deck fittings are made of brass. The cabin and engine-house are roomy compartments. The former is nicely painted, and the seats are comfortably uphols-tered in green Utrecht velvet. Motive power is supplied by a 15 h.p. Standard oil engine, capable of driving the vessel at a speed of about 10 knots per hour. The firm have also built a sister ship to this vessel for Messrs. W. A. Ryan and Co., and which is awaiting the arrival of the engines from San Francisco.

Mr Stewart Milne's launch, the Patete, is now completed, and will be placed in the water shortly.

The keel of a 30ft. launch for the Napier Harbour Board has just been laid, and the framework of a 25ft. boat for Messrs. Earl and Holland is well advanced. This firm have also two tuck-stern boats on order.

The launch Petrel was hauled up at Heme Bay on Wednesday, and is being got ready for the coming season.

The small boat which is being built by Messrs. Bailey and Lowe at the North Shore for Mr H. Buckeridge, who proposes making a trip round the Horn in her, is well under way. The builders are now busy with the deck work, and anticipate that the boat will be ready for launching a fortnight hence.

At Mr Chas. Bailey's yard the construction of a 42ft. decked surf boat is wefll advanced. She is to be fitted with an 18 h.p. Union engine,- and is under order to a Napier firm. Mr Bailey is also building a 35ft. launch for the South, which will be completed in about eight weeks' time. A 35ft. surf boat for Rarotonga has just been completed.

The annual meeting of St. G-eorge's Rowing Club will be held in the boatshed, Judge's Bay, next Tuesday. "The annual report for presentation to members states that the dub is now in a sound financial position. The balanoe of assets over liabiUties is now £515, as compared with £462 for the previous year. The sum of £192 18/ was expended in improvements and repairs. The memberehip is now 68 active and 18 honorary, against 85 and 13, respective--Iy, last year. The report refere to the additions to the boathouse, which were completed at the beginning of the season. The club was represented at the regattas, but m«t with very little success. The usual amount of interest was maintained in club races, and the competitions were keen. Trophies were presented by Messrs J. H. B. Coates (Patron), Hon. S. T. George (VicePatron), T. Russell (Commodore), A. Kohn, J. A. Lyell, E. W. G .Rathbone, C. F. Thomas (Vice-Commodores), and C. E. Palmer (member).
