IMPRESSING THE COOK.
The following good story was often told by the famous composer the late Signer Axditi, against himself. He composed an ode, which was performed by a huge band and chorus at the Crystal Palace on the twentieth birthday of that institution. He was strolling through the lobbies between the parts, when a lady dreseed in black stopped and curtsied Tery lew. Thinking 'he ;must bare nwt the fair one previously, Arditi shook her warmly by the hand. She overwhelmed him wifch compliments, and the composer was highly delighted until Mme. Arditi came up and remarkerd, "Good gracious! Luigi, don't you know, itatfft odx esfikl"
