HARBOUR BOARD.

The Harbour Board met at 2.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Present: Mr J.T. Julian (Chairman), the Hon. E. Mitehelson (Mayor), and Messrs Walker, Parker, Alex. Alison, W. Philson, G. D. Grey, J. Lason, A. E. Glover, and G. W. Basley. Applications for permission to remove sand and shells from the foreshore at both Northeote and Devonport were declined. —Letter were received from nine Harbour Boards regarding the proposal to pay honoraria to chairmen. Two were against the proposal and seven in favour. The letters were received. — Messrs Witheford, Baume, and Kidd Avrote regarding the cattle landing at Orakei, suggesting that plans and specifications be prepared for the wharf. The Chairman said a deputation from the Agricultural Association waited upon him that morning. They said if the wharf was started the Government would again place a sum on the Estimates. He told them so far the Board had nothing officially before it upon the matter. He asked the deputation to supply a locality plan, which they agreed to do, so that the Board would have something definite before it. He moved that the Board i 3 quite prepared to proceed with the work as soon as the question of the roadway is definitely settled. This was agreed to. Calliope Dock.—Messrs MeArthtir and Co. wrote forwarding estimates for the steel and iron required in connection with the erection of sheer legs at Calliope Dock. The estimated cost was £5500. The Chairman moved that the plans and specifications be referred to the Board's engineer to report upon. This course was adopted.—The Harbour Master reported it would cost £120 to place stanchions and chains round the dry dock at night-time as a precautionary measure to minimise the danger of accident. The report was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. Committees. —The report of the Works and Tariff Committee was adopted, recommending that Admiralty Hovise be offered to the Government for £ 8742; and that the watermen's house be altered to suit the requirements of a fire station. Magazine Hulk.—Mr G. Bowman was appointed keeper ol the magazine hulk. Accounts totalling £3514 19/5 were passed for payment.
