SATURDAY'S UNPLEASANT INCIDENT.

SYDNEY, July 21

The following team will represent New Zealand against Bathurst to-morrow: Fullback, Wallace; three-quarters, Asher, McGregor (2); five-eighths, Duncan and Woods; half, Kieman; forwards, Armsi iong, Tyler, Udy, Long, Fanning, Nicholson, McMinn and Given. Cooke will not play again till last Saturday's incident has been investigated on Friday next.

BATHURST, this day. There is magnificent weather for the match.

Mr Gilmour, president of the Western Union, entertained the New Zealanders at Blackdown. A pigeon match was arranged for the visitors, and was won by Gallagher, who also divided the sweepstake, in which some of the best shots of the district took part.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday.

The New Zealand Rugby Union has cabled to the manager of the team, asking -whether the circumstances warranted Cooke's recall. Mr. Norris replied: "Recall unmerited at present. Will report fully after inquiry to be held next Friday at Sydney."

All the Christchurch newspapers regret that the New Zealand footballers should have furnished their victory over New South Wales by an exhibition of lough play. Some of them blame the selectors for choosing Cooke, who, they declare, had on more than one occasion in local matches played with unnecessary roughness. The "Lyttelton Times'' demands Cooke's recall.
