FUMIGATING MAILS.
The chief postmaster, Mr Wilkins, has written to the Auckland Harbcror Board asking that a shed be provided for the fumigation of mails, as required by the Health Department. This letter was considered by the Works and Tariff Committee, with'the result that a recommendation was made to #he board yesterday that the Government be informed there is not a site available near the wharves for a fumigation shed, and the board would suggest that a hulk should be purchased for that purpose by the Government. ■ , The Chairman said it was impossible to give what was suggested. The shea space on the wharf was limited enougn already without giving 30 feet by 15Mr Parker said if they used sulphur where concrete was laid it would eat « away, so they required to be careful. The Secretary (Mr Brigham) saici that Dr. Makgill's idea was to erect a small jetty and build a shed upon it. + Finally, the recommendation of tiw committee was adopted.
