Mr W. F. Connor, of the local staff !of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, ■who is about to be married, was on Friday last presented with an oil painting end a set of afternoon teaspoons hi his fellow-employees. Mr Geo. Kelly, the manager, in making the presenta tion, referred to Mr Connor's long se vice, business abilities, and the esteem in which he was held as a friend. A farewell social to Mr John Low, of Birkenhead, is to to be tendered by the A.0.F., Court Birkenhead, in th« Wc-J----leyan Schoolroom, to-morrow evening. Members of the town societies have pro inised to be present. A pretty wedding of interest to Auriclanders was that of Miss Martha Ardern (Thames) to Captain David Scott (Auckland), at Gisborne. The clergyman was the Rev. J. G. Patterson, the bridesmaids ■were Misses Hazel and Edna Long and Lilian Donald (Auckland), and Mr Walter Ardern was best man. The Rev. J. M. Spence, of Chalmers Church, has accepted a call from Picton. Major Pitt returned to Auckland to"sir William and Lady Pollitt have left Sydney for London, accompanied by Major and Mrs Pollitt. Dr Hendry has been appointed medical officer to the gaol in Wellington, in place of Dr. Teare, who has resigned the P °Mr and Mrs E. D. O'Rorke returned from Sydney yesterday. Mr J. N. Rishworth was last night presented by the Onelmnga Borough Council with a set of carvers, as a wedding present. The Mayor made the presentation, and wished Mr Rishworth all felicity. The Governor and the Countess oi Ranfurly will attend the Grand National Steeplechase Meeting at lliccarton on August 11th and subsequent days. Ensign and Mrs Sharp have taken over the control of the Thames branch of the Salvation Army.
