THE STEAMER NIWARU.

CARGO TO BE LANDED.

(By Telegraph.^—Press Association.)

NAPIER, this day.

There is little fresh to report wittl regard to the Niwaru. The whole of tlia cargo will he landed here, as it is feared the water has found its way fra-.n the damaged hold into the other compaitments. An effort will be made 13 soon as the cargo is out to shift the steamer nearer the breakwater, and out of the reach of the swell. Pumping operations on an elaborate scale commenced to-day. Centrifugal pumps are lining sent on board this evening, and some more are expected from Welling' ten to-morrow, and the whole of these when fixed will have a pumping capa city of 3000 gallons per minute. It is hoped that it will thus be possible to reduce the water sufficiently to permit uf examination by to-morrow. A gen* oval average of 20 per cent, lias been struck on the cargo.

The magisterial inquiry as to the cause of the accident will probably be heM about Saturday.

This is the Niwaru's third voyage to the colonies, and the accident she met with last night makes the third of the kind experienced. On her first trip Home she struck some wreckage, and, as a result, a portion of her cargo was damaged. On her second voyage she struck a submerged rock at Las Pal* mas, but escaped injury. WELLINGTON, Monday. Three powerful pumps were shipped to Napier this evening for use on board the steamer Niwaru.
