THE BURGLARS.

ANOTHER DARING

ROBBERY

THEFTS FROM A BEDROOM.

Burglars have again startled the 'city residents and provided another tion of the pressing need for more police protection, the premises of Mrs G. Waite, in Pitt-street, ha ring L-jen robbed in the most daring manner on Thursday nignt. Mrs Waite carries on a thriving grocery business in Pitt-street, about half-way between Ho-bson and Vincent streets, and the back of the premises runs xito Vincent-street. As in other recent burglaries, the locil knowledge of the thieves was very complete and accurate, while for daring it is also quite up to the standard of the unscrupulous g"u;g who seem 'to be preying on local residents and tradespeople. .Between 10 and 11 o'clock the family retired to rest, and some time during the night tlie thieves carried on operations, actually entering the bedroom occupied by Mr and Mrs Waite, and another where two pons, aged 13 and 10, were sleeping. Mr Waite is a light sleeper, but he was not disturbed by the clever cracksmen, who entered iiis room, turned out the contents of three drawers, and went through the pockets of all the clothing they could find. They secured a purse containing £](j in notes and gold from a skirt of Mrs Waite's, and also a purse which was on the washatand, ai>l held between £ 1 and .C-! in silver. A case containing two gold tar-rings was appropriated, but in the hurry one was dropped on the bedroom lloor. The burglars were also i:i the bedroom of the sons, but it was in the other room that the haul was made. They got dear away, and it Was only when Hie family woke up as usual that they found what had happened. The premises had been entered from the back, which is easily accessible from Vincent-street, and a defective lock in one of the back doors gave the intruders an easy I ask to open it.
