PERSONAL.
Dr. Mason, chief health officer, and Dr. Wohlmann, Government balneologist, were passengers to Wellington yesterday by the Ngapuhi. Mr J. Brown and his family have gone to Dannevirke from Paeroa, where Mr ißrown is to be postmaster. Mr Empson, postmaster at Rotorua, is taking a month's holiday, accompanied by Mrs Empson, whose medical adviser haa recommended a change after her long illnese. Our Waihi correspondent reports the serious illness of Mr A. H. Benge, the popular head master of the local District High School. Dr. Neligan, accompanied by Canon Mac Murray, and the Rev. W. Williams, returned from Napier yesterday by the Zealandia. The Bishop preached in the Church of the Epiphany, Karangahaperoad, in the evening on "Miracles." Captain Graham, erstwhile of the Margarita, has taken charge of the barque Clan MacLeod. Captain A. Campbell, whom he relieved, is coming up to Auckland by the Wainui for the benefit of his health. Miss Carrie Knight was presented last evening by the St. Patrick's choir, of which she is one of the soloists, with v salad bowl and a set of silver forks and spoons, the bowl being inscribed, "Presented to Miss C. Knight on the occasion of her marriage by St. Patrick's choir." The Rev. Father Patterson made the presentation, and alluded to the sterling worth of Miss Knight. Mr 11. 13. Magrath has been advanced to the position of Chief Clerk in the Public Health Department, in place of Mi E. Horneman, who has taken up an appointment at the Cambridge Sanatorium. Mr Magrath has been connected with the Department since its inauguration. Among the appointments of which notice is given in the last "Gazette" are those of Charles H. Arndt, to be, De-puty-Assignee at Stratford, and William Kerr, to be Crown Prosecutor at the same place. The '"'New Zealand Times" reports that the resignation of Dr. J. Teare as surgeon to the Permanent Force, Wellington, has been accepted.
