SYDNEY, this day
The report of the Department of Labour shows that the factories of the metropolis last year had increased by 19S. The report calls attention to" the increasing proportion of female and child workers. For every man added to the number of factory workers there were over seven women and children. Amongst the latter permits were issued in the city, to 443 between the ages of 13 and 14. A decline was noted in the number of Chinese employed in the furniture trade, but there had been ?_ remarkable extension of competition, of the Chinese in the grocery trade.
