OBITUARY.
ME E. EL LI XC HAM,
An old eoloni-4, well known in com--nierciiil circles in Auckland, died lastevening, namely. Mr Edmund Ellinw. ham. merchant, of CMsrom-sireet East. Mr Ellinijham was born in Buckingh;_jn. shire. England, and came to Aueklairl as far back as 18C4, in the ship Pegasus. Mr W. Ea.'idown wr.s also a pas. sengev in the same vessel, and he join, ed Mr E!:ingham and started a bakery business in Queen-street. Subsequently Mr Elliugluun .-tailed as a general morchant, and remained in business tor over ',)'•) year:-, only retiring last December on account. <>i" fail hi.: health. As \m did a large country trade, Mr Ellinirham was a very \vei!-k:iown man out,, side of tl\<i city, move especially Korta of Auckland. In fact, he always manifested keen interest in the progress of tin* Xorth long before the cry became a popular one in the city. Possessed o f a quiet, kindly disposition, coupled with an upright character. Mr Ellingliam made m>;ny friends, who will sincere:?, regret his death at the early age of 03 years. Hie deceased sir>.s been a consistent member of the Baptist Chunh for very m?.r : y years, a life member of 'the Sunday-school, and w-u at the time of his death an elder of the Tabernacle.
