AQUATICS.
WEST END ROWING CLUB,
The West End Rowing Club concluded its season on Saturday afternoon, when trial fours for the Kohn Shield were decided. About three hundred guests were present. The arrangements for day were most complete. Refreshments were plentifully dispensed by the ladies' committee. Music provided by the Bavarian band was much appreciated. Bishop Lenihan was present, and as a compliment the band, instructed by the officers, played a .splendid selection of Irish" airs The starting of the races was in the capable hands of Mr J. H. Maxwell; Mr J. Clark gave every satisfaction as judge. In the first race three crews, stroked by D. V. Hanna, W. Wright, and A. Court, competed. After an even race Hanna's crew Avon by a quarter of a length. Three crewa competed in the second round, the strokes being G. O Stephenson, J. II BigeloAV and WE. Cossar. The race was won by the first-named. The third rdund brought out four ci'ews stroked respectively by A. Littleproud, 11. W. Cossar, F Littleproud and J. Carrigan. The race Avas very even. A short distance from home Littleproud's four made a most determined spurt, Avinning from Carrigan's by a bare length. The three Avinning crews competed in the final for the AVMiner's names to be inscribed on the Kohn Shield, and also for trophies. The boats raced boAV to bow until Avithin about a dozen strokes from the finish, Avhcn F. Littleproud's crew Avent ahead and won by about three feet from Hanna's crow, the third crew being only a length behind. The Avinners Avere F. Littleprond, A. M. Wilson, J. No ton and J W. MaxAvell. During the afternoon an old members' race Avas held, the first prizes being pipes presented by Mr W. Bartlett, lion, member. The following Avere the creAA's: —(1) H Cook (stroke), W- Sands, J Morley Bell and G Carter; (2) R. Pw Masefleld (stroke). J. Lekis, S. F. MattheAvs and J. A. Armitage; (3) R. R. DoAvden (stroke), C Slyfleld, J. Darby, .and H. BeU; (4) 11. Sands, J. Baxter, G. Mills and H. Gentles. Cook's creAV Avere successful.
