A DERELICT INFANT.

POLICE FIND THE PARENT.

The police are to be congratulated upon providing a prompt sequel to'the abandonment of an infant, reported, in. yesterday's issue, a married woman named Mary Ann Wilcox, of York-street, Parnell, being charged at to-ctay's Police Court before Mr T. Hutchison, S.M., with unlawfully exposing and abandoning a male child. The information was laid by Detective Henderson.

Chief-Detective Grace applied for a remand. He stated that the child belonged to the accused's daughter, , who was very ill in bed.

Mr Charles Buddie, who watched the case on behalf , of the accused, asked for bail.

Detective Grace remarked that the accused had threatened self destruction. After her arrest she declared she would not go home alive.

Mr Buddie replied -that, there "were friends to look after her, and His Worship, in remanding the accused for a week, allowed bail in one surety of £25.
