RICHMOND ROAD BRIDGE
" When the ratepayers of the Borough of Grey Lynn raised the loan for the formation of the Great North-road a sum was included for constructing a permanent culvert across Cox's Creek, near Messrs Warnock Bros.' factory. As Richmond-road is under the control of the Auckland City Council Mr Wrigg, city engineer, prepared plans for the work, of which the estimated cost 5s £2000. This was a larger amount than was anticipated, and the Grey Lynn Council requested its engineer, Mr H. K. Metcalfe, to report upon the scheme. At the time the loan was raised it was stated that as the Auckland Electric Tramways Company proposed extending the line from the top of Areli Hill, by the hotel, round Surrey crescent and up Richmond Hill, connecting with the Ponsonby circuit, the company was willing to contribute one-third of the cost, thus leaving the other two-thirds to be paid by the City Council and Grey Lynn Council. A special meeting of the latter council was held last night, at which there were present Messrs K. T. Warnock (Mayor), A. Donald, C. McMaster (Richmond Ward), R. C. Foster (Sussex Ward), and W. Brinsden (Surrey Ward). The plans were discussed, atnd the schemo proposed by the city engineer was agreed to, with the recommendation that Mr Metcalfe'fi suggestion be adopted. This was to the effect that a saving of about £250 could be effected by lengthening the culvert to within 10 feet of Messrs Warnock's dam, and thue save a proportion of the cost of the retaining wall. The levels proposed by the city engineer were agreed to, and It waa decided to advertise them.
