ALLEGED SUSPICIOUS PRACTICES.

ADELAIDE, April 14
The entrance and subsequent withdrawal of the New Zealand horse Evening Wonder from the Great Eastern Steeplechase, run yesterday, led to the Jockey Club 'Committee calling upon the trainer to appealbefore them to-morrow to explain the circumstances of the arrival of the horse at Adelaide, aud of the training track license being applied for and Issued under the name of Maori Chief. Both Evening Wo.uder and Maori Chief were entered for the Mg jumping races at the Onkaparinga meeting, but after the alleged Maori Chief had been some time in training, it was discovered that the horse had not left New Zealand. Pending an inquiry all wagers on Onkaparinga and other local events in respect to Maori Chief and Evening Wonder are suspended.
The Jockey Club opened the inquiry regarding the Maori Chief case, and then adjourned till the 23rd for further evfdenee.
