Between seven and eight o'clock this morning Mr. J. R. Thornton, solicitor, was picked up on St. Clair beach unconscious. He had a wound from a pea rifle in the centre of his forenead. and the weapon still in his hand. T>ry little hope of his recovery is entertained.
