CASHIER AND CLERK CHARGED.
At, the Police Court to-day, before Mr W. R. Haselden, S.M., George Vernon Aimer, cashier, and Andrew" Conn, 'a youth employed with Aimer at the office of .Mr James Cahill, as junior clerk, were charged with breaking and entering their employer's premises and stealing £58 17/2, the money of Mr Cahill. Chief-Dctec-tive Grace prosecuted, Mr J. C. Martin represented the accused, Conn, and Mr E. W. Burton Aimer.
The police applied fox a week's remand, and Detective Grace, in reply to questions from the Bench, stated that both accused were persons holding respectable positions, and tlie whole of tlie money bad now been restored.
Mr Martin stated that tlie elder prisoner was responsible for ihe cash which was kept in the office. When a' sum of money equivalent to thai mentioned in the charge was taken by somebody, his employer told him that he would be held responsible, and would have to refund it. He, complied with this demand, and duly provided the money.
His Worship granted a week's remand and allowed bail in the sum of £30 each, and two sureties of £25 each. '
