The following cable has been received from the Agent-General dated London, 7th inst.: —"The mutton market has been unfavourably affected by a continuance United 'States shipments. Average prices to-day were: Canterbury mutton, 4 7-8 d; Dunedin and Southland V. W. M. E. Co. mutton, 4 5-8 d; other North Island mutton, 47-Sd; River Plate mutton, 4d: Australian mutton, 4d; United States mutton, 3Jd. The lamb market is steady. New season's, 6|d. The beef market is very dull. New Zealand hinds, 4 1-Sd; fores, 3,} d. There has been no alteration in the butter market since last week. The cheese market is steady. New Zealand, (.:?/ per cwt. The price of good, fair Wellington grade on spot to-day was £9/2: January and March shipments, £28 10/. Cocksfoot seed: Market dltll. The price of New Zealand, 1711) standard, is 03/ per cwt. American cocksfoot is regarded with favour.
