THE MATCH AGAINST WANGANUI.

' (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WANGANUI, Saturday

In fair but cloudy weather the match with Lord Hawke's team was started to-day. Wanganui won the toss and batted first. Hargreaves and Thompson opened the bowling, and the former got Cave in his first over. J. Marshall played both bowlers confidently, and brought on a double change, which was effective. Burnup got him caught at third man. Gordon scored off Bosanquefs slows, but he was well caught by Leatham in the long field. Bannister and Logac played nicely for 16 each, and Carrad had a good deal of luck in making 21. The innings closed for 120. At halfpast five Warner and Leatham went in, and the latter, after being apparently caught, was clean bowled next ball by Fannin. Warner was very respectful with Howden, but Fane hit him splendidly to the boundary, where Gordon brought off a good catch.—Two wickets for 21 runs at the call of time. For the visitors Hargreaves bowled finely, and took three wickets for 14, with six maidens out of 11 overs. Thompson was very straight, and Bosanquet bowled very alow, with a remarkable leg and occasional off break. Burnup swerved in the air considerably, and sent down some loose balls. The fielding was good, and no catches were missed, some good ones in the slips being taken by Bosanquet. Wanganui are fielding with 15 men, and the Englishmen are batting 12 and fielding 11. There was a very good attendance, much interest being taken in the match. The scores are as follows:—
