THE SEALDA.

The 8.1. steamer Sealda arrived from Calcutta and Singapore yesterday morning, berthing at the Queen-st. wharf after medical inspection. The vessel has only been running for nine months, and is now on her second voyage. She was built at Laing's yards, Sunderland, and is 420 ft long, 49ft broad, with a moulded depth of 30ft. Her gross tonnage is 5382, and Jier registered tonnage 3438. The engines are on the triple-expansion principle, and •re capable of driving- the steamer at a

rate of 11 knots per hour, when fully loaded. The Sealda is fitted with all the latest improvements for tn« rapid handling of cargo, and- can carry 1000 horses below. The officers' quarters are all roomy and neatly fitted and the saloon is nicely panelled in maple, with blue upholstering. The Sealda left Calcutta on November 27, and Singapore on December 10; signalled off Cape Otway on December 27; passed Cape' Maria Van Diemen at 1 a.m. on Saturday, and anchored in the harbour at 8 a.m. yesterday. Generally line weather prevailed during the voyage, the only bad weather met with being encountered as Cape Otway was neared. Captain Macintyre is in command, and has with him the following deck officers:— Chief, Mr Grosholz; second, Mr Shilson; third, Mr Hughes; fourth, Mr Reeves. Mr McLean is in charge of the engine department, and has with him Mr McLean, second; Mr Money, third; Mr Bax, fourth; and Mr Turner, fifth. Mr King is purser. On discharge of cargo at the four chief New Zealand ports, the Sealda proceeds to Australia to load for India.
