CYCLING.

H. Amos, the ex-amateur champion, made his appearance in the cash ranks at Lancaster Park recently. He was on the 60yds mark in the second heat of the Wheel Eace, but was unable to make any impression on the men in front of him.

G. Sutherland, who is said to have lost none of his old-time brilliancy, leaves next month for Sydney, to compete in the big meetings which will 'be held there this season.

■ The members of the New South Wales Tourists' Union met last week to consider the scheme for amalgamation with the New South Wales Cyclists' Union, and unanimously agreed to it. The amalgamation is to take effect from January 1 next. Morgan and Beauchamp are spoken of as having , arranged to meet Robl, the great German rider, in paced races in Melbourne. "Major" Taylor reckons Robl is a world's champion at that kind of racing. But the trouble in Melbourne is that they have no track suitable for the fastest pacing machines. The Austral Wheel Race meetinghas fallen upon evil times. Rain has now twice interfered with the racing, rendering postponements absolutely necessary in order to prevent accidents, as the grass track soon becomes slippery and dangerous. The meeting will be brought to a termina-. tion on January 10. Those left in the big event are: It. H. Walne 30yds, A. C. Forbes 50, R. Mutton 60, J. Chalmers 70, J. Filsell 80, M. Lewis 90, A. C. Middleton 100, W. Sadler 180, D. J. Plunkett 180, C. A. Best 200, S. L. Whitson 220, W. J. Smith 230, F. Auger 240, F. Smith 250, C. Gee 270. Thus "Sporting Life" of a recent date: Arthur Augustus Zimmerman and his young wife left Paris en route for America Thursday morning last, via London. How the mighty have fallen! It is a great pity this past champion of champions should have emerged from his seclusion, and attempted to race against present time men. "He rode V.ke p, rocket, but fell as a stick. More's the shame.
